Le Marin Anchorage and Mooring Field (Cul-de-Sac du Marin)

14° 27.9′ N · 60° 52.2′ W

The biggest yacht harbour in the Windwards: a deep, reef-guarded bay at Martinique's southern tip where hundreds of boats lie on marina mooring balls and anchor among the mangroves within dinghy range of every chandlery, sail loft and supermarket on the island.

Practical

Position is the mooring the yacht Stargazer gave in its May 2023 log, about a third of a mile from the main marina. The marina's official site lists 100 mooring buoys, and the Direction de la Mer authorised a 98-buoy mooring zone (ZMEL) in 2021. Cruisers report that the inner bay is now mostly moorings, and Noonsite says anchoring is being 'actively discouraged' in Le Marin and St Anne. Anchoring is still possible on the western side of the harbour, outside the channel. The traditional cyclone holes are marked with yellow buoys and closed to anchoring except during a hurricane alert. Mooring rates incl. VAT, posted on the marina site (accessed October 2026): 0-29 ft €12.00 for each of the first two nights, then €10.00; 30-49 ft €14.40, then €12.00; over 50 ft €18.00, then €15.00. The sheet heads these columns 'per foot', so confirm the basis when booking. Monthly rates are €79, €110 and €160. Multihulls pay 50% more. Tourist tax is €0.66 a night. Book with the capitainerie on +596 596 74 83 83 or VHF 9. Fees include black/grey-water pump-out, wifi, showers and the waste points. A 2019 Noonsite report gives a dangerous unmarked wreck just below the surface at 14°28.112'N 60°52.460'W. Shallow patches are hard to spot from a dinghy. Dinghy and outboard theft is a recurring problem, so lift and lock the dinghy at night.
