Le Vauclin Anchorage

14° 33.0′ N · 60° 50.2′ W

A wide, reef-protected Atlantic lagoon off a working fishing town. You get flat water behind the reef, kites flying off Pointe Faula, and a real Martinican town ashore with a covered market.

Practical

Position from Anchorages.co, which reports generally good holding on sand closer to shore. Multihulls World describes the south entrance as marked by a single red buoy (leave to starboard, IALA-B), with a rock just above the surface marking the other side, and the entrance strewn with lobster-pot floats. Sail rather than motor through. Once inside, big rocks and the reef shelter the area as far north as Le Robert. The town harbour mouth has red-and-white and green-and-white beacons (OSM, see passage 'Le Vauclin Harbour Entrance'). Ashore are a covered market, an Ecomax supermarket, pharmacies and fuel (road station, jerry cans) (OSM). Daylight and good sun only, settled trades.
