Case-Pilote Anchorage and Harbour

14° 38.6′ N · 61° 8.4′ W

A working fishing village 11-12 km north of Fort-de-France with a breakwater harbour, the oldest church on the island and a mountain backdrop. Transient yachts anchor outside the breakwater.

Practical

ActiveCaptain: rebuilt after Hurricane David (1979); anchor north of the breakwater in about 3 m, average holding over mostly sand, good swinging room. Approach from the west; keep the harbour channel clear for the fishing fleet. Entering the harbour: look for the red marker on the seawall and the green on the other wall and pass between them. Inside is just a concrete wall with bumpers. Older sailing directions (1992) warned of debris near the dock. Ashore: supermarket and shops, a bank, a covered market (Marché Jean-Baptiste Armet, OSM), bakeries and the Le Shells beach bar-restaurant overlooking the harbour (Martinique tourism). A Volvo Penta diesel workshop is on the harbour (see its own entry). SNSM lifeboat station Case-Pilote: +596 696 40 91 11 (Rade de Saint-Pierre listing). Diving, fishing and whale and dolphin tours leave from here (ActiveCaptain).

Best for
