Buccoo Bay Anchorage

11° 10.9′ N · 60° 48.8′ W · approximate

The fishing-village bay on the north-east side of the Buccoo Reef lagoon, home to Sunday School and the Easter goat races. Noonsite lists it as an alternative to Store Bay for clearing in at Scarborough by road.

Practical

Position is a point in the water about 400 m west of the Buccoo village piers, derived from OpenStreetMap pier and coastline positions (approx); no published anchor fix was found. Noonsite (September 2024) says only that it 'may also be possible to anchor in Bucco Bay' and clear at Scarborough by taxi. The bay is bounded by the Buccoo Reef Marine Park, where vessels need the Minister's permission and must keep to the marked channel; the reef's cardinal markers were reported missing in 2014 (Doyle), so do not attempt an approach without up-to-date local advice, good light and a careful bow watch. No depth or holding figures were found in any source opened. Fishing boats land the day's catch on the beach in the late afternoon, and fishermen sell it there. Dinghy: the small village piers are used by tour and fishing boats. Water quality near Bon Accord Lagoon is affected by sewage-plant runoff (Rough Guides).

Best for

Being on the doorstep of Sunday School, with Store Bay as the safer fallback
