Barbados Signal Station (VHF 12)

13° 6.0′ N · 59° 38.0′ W

Bridgetown's port control, at the northern end of Carlisle Bay on the Deep Water Harbour breakwater. Every arriving yacht calls 'Signal Station Bridgetown' before entering.

Practical

Position is from Barbados Port Inc.'s Yacht Masters Guide (13°06'N, 59°38'W), given only to the nearest minute. Call on VHF 12 (call sign 8PB, '8 Papa Bravo') when approaching and give your intentions; Noonsite says you will be asked for dimensions, flag and number of crew and will likely be told to stand by. Cruise-ship traffic has priority, so expect to wait. The Signal Station is staffed 24 hours on VHF 12 and 16 (phone 246 434 6100 ext. 4306 per the port guide). Once you have permission to enter the Deep Water Harbour, stay in constant contact on VHF 12 and fly the Q flag inside harbour limits until cleared. The Barbados Coast Guard answers on VHF 16 (call sign 8PZ, phone 246 430 4782 per the port guide). Landmarks by day: three sugar silos and a beacon on the north end of the breakwater; the breakwater light is Fl(3)R 10s, 12 nm.
