Bridgetown's two-storey public market: carts piled with sweet potatoes, yams, soursop and mangoes outside, and spice, fruit and meat stalls inside, with hot Bajan lunches upstairs.
Practical
Position from Visit Barbados. Generally open Monday to Saturday, 7 am to 5 pm; Saturday morning is busiest and best for first pick (Visit Barbados). A refrigerated meat section is on the west side, and food stalls upstairs. Temple Yard, the Rastafari craft and Ital food centre, is across the street (closed Sundays). From Carlisle Bay, dinghy into the Careenage or walk about 15 minutes along the waterfront. Noonsite: the fresh produce market is about a 10-minute walk from Jordans supermarket. Bring small Barbados dollars.
