Baradal Turtle Sanctuary

12° 38.0′ N · 61° 21.3′ W

A buoyed, boat-free swimming zone over sand and seagrass off Baradal where green and hawksbill turtles graze unafraid in 6 to 12 ft of water - one of the best turtle snorkels in the Caribbean.

Practical

Position from Snorkeling Report's site map; OpenStreetMap marks the turtle sanctuary at the same spot. Enter from the small beach at Baradal's southern tip, or dinghy to the edge of the buoyed area (dinghies may not anchor in the park; beach the dinghy instead). Shallow, calm and suitable for beginners and kids in normal trades. Do not touch, chase or ride the turtles; keep 6 to 10 ft away and give them room to surface. Day-tour boats crowd it from late morning; go early or late. One 2019 cruiser found visibility poor, so conditions vary.
