Anse Noire

14° 31.7′ N · 61° 5.2′ W

The only black-sand beach in the south of Martinique, a small, quiet cove under a wooded valley with crystal-clear water and rich snorkelling, only about 100 m from white-sand Anse Dufour.

Practical

From land the cove is reached down a 130-step staircase; a small bungalow guesthouse sits under the trees (Martinique tourism). From the sea, ActiveCaptain reviewers (2022) anchored in about 18 ft and found good holding by searching for sand. Wind shifts a lot because of the valley, so leave room from other boats. Healthy coral and lots of life on the southern bank, good for a night dive. A rock ledge gives a 20 ft jump into the bay. Local users ask visitors to protect the turtles, snappers, jacks, parrotfish and squid here. Anchorage point: ActiveCaptain 533299 (14.52769, -61.08849).
