Anse Dufour Anchorage

14° 31.6′ N · 61° 5.4′ W

A tiny fishing cove of golden-white sand between Grande Anse and Anse à l'Âne, with gommier fishing boats pulled up on the beach and turtles in the middle of the bay. There is room for only a handful of yachts.

Practical

ActiveCaptain (2023): a small bay that fits about 3 boats; close to the beach the holding was excellent and it was not very rolly. Many local fishing boats use the cove, so leave their moorings and the beach approach clear. Expect lots of swimmers and snorkellers passing the boat, and day-trip boats anchoring nearby. A cave on the side of the bay offers outstanding snorkelling. Anse Noire is about 100 m north round the point. A café at the head of the road (Doyle Guides) sells drinks and snacks. Exposed to westerly swell.

Best for

A lunch or overnight stop for the turtle snorkel
