Sandy Cay Day Moorings
18° 26.1′ N · 64° 42.7′ W · approximate
National Parks Trust day moorings on the leeward southwest side of Sandy Cay, in the zone set aside to protect the seabed from anchors.
Practical
Position is approximate: off the southwest beach (Wikipedia places the field on the leeward SW side; OpenStreetMap coastline used to keep it in the water). NPT: moorings in Zone 4; an NPT marine conservation permit is required by law (buy from your charter company or BVI Customs); maximum 70 ft or 35 tons; 90-minute limit; no overnight use; orange balls are non-diving day use, blue are dinghy only. Fines up to US$10,000 or a year in prison under the 2008 National Parks Regulations. Yacht Warriors notes good anchoring on the south side in sand if all balls are taken; keep off coral and seagrass. Foul ground extends 200 yards from the east and west ends of the cay (Coast Pilot 5).
