Sandy Spit

18° 27.0′ N · 64° 42.5′ W

A postcard-perfect ring of white sand with a few palms and sea grapes, under half an acre, off the east end of Jost Van Dyke: probably the most photographed islet in the BVI and the classic lunch-hook swim ashore.

Practical

Coordinate from Wikipedia/GeoHack. The only limestone islet among the volcanic northern cays (NPT). Hurricane Irma stripped it in 2017; palms have been replanted. Swim or dinghy ashore; land dinghies gently on the sand and take everything off with you. A sloping reef and wall on the south side is easy snorkeling (JVD Scuba). See Sandy Spit Anchorage for the boat.
