No ATM or Bank on Anegada (Bring Cash)

18° 43.3′ N · 64° 22.9′ W · approximate

Anegada has no ATM and no bank: there is nowhere on the island to get cash, change or deposit a cheque, so arrive with enough US dollars for moorings, taxis, rentals and the honour-bar beach bars.

Practical

Position is approximate: the Setting Point ferry dock, where the BVI Ports Authority proposed placing a machine. Status as of March 6, 2026 (Virgin Islands News Online): residents still had no cash machine and no bank, and had to take the ferry (three times a week) to Tortola or Virgin Gorda for banking. History: in April 2022 the Ports Authority said it would approach all the banks about an ATM at the ferry dock, and residents said there were no ATMs on the island; in July 2025 Minister Vincent Wheatley said funding for an Anegada ATM was in a supplementary appropriation still in committee, with no location chosen. Check before you sail in case a machine has opened, but plan as if there is none. Draw cash in Road Town or Spanish Town, and note that a minister said in 2022 that Virgin Gorda's ATMs often run out of cash by early afternoon on Fridays, so do not leave it to the last stop. Mooring collectors and many small businesses expect cash; honour-system tabs (Cow Wreck's cash jar, local car-rental owners asking you to leave payment on the seat) are common. Currency is the US dollar.
