Joe's Cave (West Dog)

18° 29.0′ N · 64° 28.2′ W · approximate

A scenic boulder dive against West Dog's shore, with granite blocks up to 25 ft high and a small shallow cavern full of glassy sweepers.

Practical

Coordinate approximate (east side of West Dog). Dive BVI: 20 to 45 ft, novice, best for scenery rather than marine life; a good second dive. NPT lists Joe's Cave among the dive sites around West Dog National Park. Day moorings only; West Dog itself is a bird sanctuary (no landing). Sunchaser Scuba gives 15 to 45 ft and describes finishing shallow, at about 20 ft, by entering the cave, which runs under the island to a school of glassy sweepers with sunlight pouring in at the exit; Yacht Warriors notes a large minnow-filled fissure.

Best for

Easy scenic second dive
