Flamingo Bay Anchorage (Water Island)

18° 18.7′ N · 64° 57.5′ W · approximate

A well-sheltered bay on Water Island's southwest side with a small inner lagoon behind it, popular with long-term liveaboards and close to the Fort Segarra ruins.

Practical

Position approximate: in Flamingo Bay at the OpenStreetMap label, checked to be in the water. Noonsite: muddy sand in 12 to 20 ft, good holding; leave room on the south side for dinghy traffic to the inner lagoon; some long-term boats use stern anchors, so watch your swing. There is a dinghy dock in the inner bay (Noonsite). Coast Pilot: Flamingo Bay leads to Flamingo Pond and a small boat harbor; Flamingo Point to the south is a 100 ft brown cliff. Designated DPNR anchorage. USVI anchoring rules: DPNR requires an Anchoring Permit for recreational vessels anchoring in USVI waters without a mooring permit, and charter vessels not registered in the USVI need a Cruising Permit for overnight anchoring; pollution and refuse discharge fines run to US$10,000 per offense (DPNR site, 2026). DPNR enforces a 14-day limit in any one designated anchorage in a six-month period (Noonsite, 2018); move bays to restart the count or apply for a long-term permit (up to 30 days).
