Cayo Icacos Anchorage

18° 23.0′ N · 65° 35.6′ W · approximate

A daytime and settled-weather anchorage in the lee of Cayo Icacos, the first stop out of Fajardo for many charter boats.

Practical

Position is approximate: off the southwest side of the cay near the old quarry wharf, using OpenStreetMap's Playa Icacos outline and Coast Pilot 5's description; no published depths for this spot were found, so sound in and anchor on sand. Keep at least 300 yards off the west end of the reef that runs about 0.4 mile west from the northwest end of the cay (Coast Pilot). The cay is low, so northerly swell wraps around in winter; it is a lunch stop in those conditions. Busy with local power boats on weekends. No-anchor on coral or seagrass (La Cordillera reserve).

Best for

A lunch-stop snorkel close to Puerto del Rey

Season

Settled trades; untenable in northerly swell
