Snorkel· Cayo Icacos· Virgin Islands (BVI, USVI and Spanish Virgins)

Cayo Icacos

18° 23.2′ N · 65° 35.3′ W

The largest uninhabited cay of La Cordillera, 1.3 miles east of Cabo San Juan: a low, scrubby island ringed by white sand and clear water, with reef snorkeling off its shores and a ruined limestone-quarry wharf at its southwest point.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia. Coast Pilot 5: a 40-ft hummocky island with a small wharf and the buildings of a former limestone quarry near the southwest point and a prominent tower near the center; a reef on which the sea breaks lies 0.2 mile south of Los Farallones and continues about 0.4 mile west from the northwest end of Icacos, so give its west end a berth of 300 yards or more; Cayo Ratones lies 250 yards east with a reef awash between them. Sail Caribe: pristine white-sand beaches and a couple of excellent snorkeling spots, about 5 nautical miles from Puerto del Rey. Icacos is a 15-minute water-taxi ride from Las Croabas (Wikipedia), so it gets crowded with day boats on weekends and holidays; go midweek and early. Part of La Cordillera reserve (DRNA).
