Koh Phangan's capital and ferry hub: three main piers, a grid of shophouses, and the island's biggest supermarkets a short walk or taxi ride from the dinghy.

Practical

Wikipedia: the port area has three main piers, one able to take medium-to-large container and passenger craft; the others serve passenger and dive boats to Samui, Tao, Surat Thani and Chumphon. Supermarkets on OpenStreetMap: Lotus's (9.7118N 99.9908E, listed 6am–10pm daily), Big C (9.7092N 100.0007E, 8am–10pm), Tops (9.7089N 99.9914E), and the small organic/Western grocer Lim Pi Pong (8am–6pm Mon–Sat). Nira's Home Bakery sits on the pier road a block south of the pier. Hardware stores cluster on the road east of town. Wikivoyage lists a police station, hospital with English-speaking staff, laundries, pharmacies, the main post office (Mon–Fri 8:30am–4:30pm, Sat–Sun 9am–12pm), five banks, ATMs and Western Union. Taxis are songthaew pick-ups; walk to the roundabout taxi rank rather than taking one from the pier. Scooter rentals usually hold your passport; photograph any damage first.
