Thong Sala Anchorage (east of Koh Tae Nai)

9° 42.4′ N · 99° 58.9′ E

Open roadstead off Koh Phangan's main town and ferry port, tucked just east of the little offshore island of Koh Tae Nai. It is where you anchor to reprovision, swap crew off the Samui and mainland ferries, or rent a scooter for the island.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 09°42.392N 099°58.863E (anchorage G), about 3 nm from Haad Rin Nai. Anchor in about 10 m east of the small offshore island (Koh Tae Nai). Bottom type and holding are not stated in the Pilot; set carefully and expect ferry wash: Raja, Seatran, Lomprayah and the night boat all use the Thong Sala piers through the day and evening. Open to the west and southwest, so it is a fair-weather or NE-monsoon stop rather than an SW-monsoon one. Land the dinghy at the town piers or the beach beside them and keep clear of ferry berths. Ashore in Thong Sala: banks, ATMs, money exchange, post office, police, hospital, laundries and pharmacies (Wikivoyage). Koh Phangan is not a port of entry: Customs and Immigration for the Samui group are at Ao Nathon, Koh Samui (SE Asia Pilot).

Best for

Reprovisioning and crew changes at the island's main port

Season

Best in the NE monsoon (Nov–Apr); exposed to W and SW
