Shark Point (Hin Musang)

7° 47.9′ N · 98° 37.6′ E

A cluster of mostly submerged limestone pinnacles in open water east of Phuket, smothered in soft corals and famous for leopard sharks resting on the sand. It is a standard stop on Chalong dive boats together with Anemone Reef and the King Cruiser wreck.

Practical

Coordinate is the OSM 'Hin Mu Sang' node; a beaconed islet ('Shark Point Beacon') stands about 700 m west. Currents sweep the tops of the pinnacles; look for orange-spine unicornfish, unusual morays and a pair of tigertail seahorses on the main pinnacle (Wikivoyage). No anchorage; dive from a tender or a dive boat. Keep well clear of the pinnacles under way.

Best for

Leopard sharks and soft corals
