Koh Yao Yai Southern End Anchorage

7° 54.2′ N · 98° 35.2′ E

A firm-holding mud bay at the south end of Koh Yao Yai, with a small stilt fishing village up a mangrove creek. A cruising crew in January 2025 found it quiet.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 07°54.219N 98°35.181E, about 26 nm from Yacht Haven. Keep well off the rocky point to the west. Anchor in 4–6 m, mud, firm holding. Good overnight NE-monsoon protection; usable in light winds in the SW season. Take the dinghy up the shallow creek on the west side to reach the village (shallow bar at the mangrove entrance, deeper inside for shoal draft). Another village with a road link sits at the bend where the fishing pot boats tie up. Observe the Muslim dress code. A January 2025 cruiser blog calls it Ao Lo Pa Lai.

Best for

Quiet NE-season night and a stilt-village dinghy trip

Season

Good Nov–Apr; light winds only May–Oct
