8° 7.0′ N · 98° 36.0′ E · approximate

About 90 percent of Koh Yao's people are Muslim, so for the month of Ramadan village life shifts to after-sunset meals, with daytime cafes in the villages often quiet.

Practical

Position approximate: the Wikivoyage centre point for Ko Yao. Wikipedia's Ko Yao district article gives the 90 percent Muslim share (2018). Expected Ramadan dates from Wikipedia: about 8 February–8 March 2027 and 28 January–25 February 2028 (subject to moon sighting). During Ramadan avoid eating, drinking or smoking conspicuously in the villages, and dress modestly as the Southeast Asia Pilot asks year-round. Tourist-strip resorts keep normal hours.
