Laem Ngop Pier (Immigration and Port)
12° 10.3′ N · 102° 23.6′ E
The mainland fishing town and pier opposite Koh Chang. It holds the Marine Department (harbour master) office for domestic clearance and a Trat Immigration service point, and it is the jumping-off point for the Koh Chang group's paperwork.
Practical
The Southeast Asia Pilot says port and immigration clearance for the Koh Chang group is at the Laem Ngop pier. Noonsite (May 2018) says the Laem Ngop immigration office had closed and moved to Khlong Yai near the Cambodian border, with only the Marine Department staying at Laem Ngop. OpenStreetMap, however, maps an active 'Trat Immigration Lam Ngob Office' service point, open Mon–Fri 8:30am–4:30pm; the coordinate is that office. Because the two disagree, confirm in person or through an agent which office handles yacht arrival and departure. In 2017 a cruiser leaving a yacht while flying home was told by Laem Ngop Immigration to bring paper copies of passport, marina contract and return ticket and to pay a 20,000 THB refundable deposit (Noonsite comment, verify locally). The Laem Ngop fishing jetty and lighthouse are beside the office. There is no published yacht anchorage off the town.
