Koh Taen Mangrove Walk

9° 22.1′ N · 99° 56.1′ E · approximate

A wooden boardwalk and trails through the large mangrove forest on Koh Taen's southwest coast, where monitor lizards are often seen and paths lead on to bat caves.

Practical

Approximate position on the southwest coast, derived from Wikipedia's description of the mangroves and the OSM outline of Koh Taen (centre 9.3755, 99.9443). Southeast Asia Pilot mentions mangrove trails leading to caves; a 2026 tour listing describes the boardwalk. Land by dinghy from the anchorage at mid to high tide (the mangrove fringe dries). Bring insect repellent and shoes. About 20-30 people live on the island, mostly at Ban Ko Taen; a small beach temple has a freshwater spring.

Best for
