Ao Phangka Anchorage
9° 25.6′ N · 99° 55.9′ E · approximate
Ao Phangka (Pang Ka), the small bay tucked into Samui's southwest corner west of Thong Krut, looking straight at the Five Islands, with a few low-key resorts and a reef-fringed beach.
Practical
Approximate position about 300 m off the OSM Phangka beach outline (way 169780189, shoreline near 9.4255-9.4288, 99.935-99.9375), derived, not surveyed. No cruising guide consulted gives depth, holding or a position for Ao Phangka, so treat it as a daytime stop: approach from the west in good light, sound in, and anchor on sand clear of coral and fishing gear. The Five Islands (day anchorage on the east side of Koh Mae Tap in 7 m) are about 4 km west, and Thong Krut pier (longtails to Koh Taen) is 2 km east. The Island Spirit guide warns of strong outflowing current and overfalls between Samui and Koh Taen in SW winds. The bay faces west and southwest: the island shelters it from NE winds, but it is exposed in the SW monsoon.
Best for
A quiet NE-season lunch stop near the Five Islands
Season
NE monsoon in settled weather; exposed W and SW
