Five Bird's Nest Islands Day Anchorage (Koh Mae Tap)
9° 25.8′ N · 99° 53.8′ E
A cluster of sheer limestone islets off Samui's southwest coast, Koh Si Koh Ha, where swiftlet nests are harvested from the cliffs; a dramatic lunch stop on the way to or from Ang Thong.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot position 9°25.769'N 99°53.827'E. Deep water: not recommended overnight. The day anchorage is on the east side of Koh Mae Tap; on the southwest side you can find shelter from strong winds without anchoring. Keep a respectful distance from the cliffs and any guards or nest-collection gear, and do not land. The Island Spirit Samui cruising guide (2023): the only anchorage in the group is on the eastern side of Koh Mae Tap in 7 m; the surrounding water is deep. Leaving Koh Katen (Koh Taen) westbound the current rushes out of the gap between Samui and the island and meets the SW wind, so expect overfalls for a mile or two before the islands. Do not go ashore: the nest collectors are very protective.
Best for
