Koh Surin Nua Anchorage A (east coast)

9° 25.7′ N · 97° 53.6′ E

A sand patch at the edge of the fringing reef off a fine, jungle-backed beach on Surin Nua's east side, with good snorkelling straight off the boat.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot position 09°25.663N, 97°53.558E. Anchor in 15–20 m on sand at the edge of the fringing reef. The bottom shelves sharply from more than 25 m, so approach slowly with a good lookout and make sure the anchor is on sand, not coral. Exposed to the east, so it is better as a day stop in strong NE winds. Jaak (Chak) Bay, a wide bay with a long beach and reef, lies just north (Thai National Parks).

Best for

Snorkelling a fringing reef straight off the boat

Season

Mid-October to mid-May; settled weather
