Koh Lipe South Anchorage (Pattaya Beach)

6° 29.1′ N · 99° 18.1′ E

The deep anchorage off Pattaya Beach, Lipe's busy main bay, with the immigration office, floating ferry pontoon and Walking Street right ashore. Functional rather than peaceful, but it is where you anchor to clear in or out.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot (6°29.060N 99°18.126E): anchor in 20-25 m (no less than 15 m) on sand, outside the steep fringing reef. The bay is crowded with large offshore rafts, ferry and speedboat jetties, and ferry buoys that have spread west, leaving less room for yachts; ferry wake is a nuisance (Noonsite). Approaching from the west, rocks are exposed at low tide. Dinghy landing: through a small sandy channel in the coral on the east side of the bay, or alongside the floating jetty at the entrance to Walking Street; no access at low tide. Noonsite notes a reef on the western side of the bay extending up to 100 m that makes beach access hard at low water. Wikivoyage reports a plastic pontoon pier for speedboats built by January 2024. Open to the south: uncomfortable in the SW monsoon.
