8° 2.4′ N · 98° 56.2′ E
A 14 sq km mangrove island in the mouth of the Krabi River, home to about 5,000 mostly Muslim Thai fisher-folk, where you can watch longtail boats being built and batik being made.
Practical
Coordinates from Wikipedia. About 80% mangrove forest; local livelihood is marine transport, rice farming and batik (Wikipedia). Longtails cross from the Krabi Town waterfront piers (OpenStreetMap maps Chaofa Pier at 8.06276N 98.91951E). From Krabi Marina or Port Takola it is a short dinghy ride, but mind the strong river current and mud banks at low water. Dress modestly in the village.
