Krabi River Entrance and Anchorage

8° 3.7′ N · 98° 55.3′ E · approximate

An anchorage in the Krabi River off downtown Krabi, across from the Mud Crab sculpture and night market, with an all-tide floating dinghy dock and the three clearance offices a short Grab ride away.

Practical

Position approx: plotted mid-river opposite Chao Fah pier (OpenStreetMap ferry terminal 8.0628N 98.9195E); confirm the channel and depth on arrival. A Noonsite cruiser report (May 2025) found excellent holding and no problems anchored across from the Mud Crab sculpture, with an all-tide floating dinghy dock beside it (use the inside or ends to keep clear of longtails). The Southeast Asia Pilot notes the anchorage north of Krabi River Marina is accessible only at high tide, while the anchorage north of Port Takola Marina is accessible at all tides. Strong tidal stream; the estuary is a Ramsar wetland.
