Ko Laen Anchorage (Tarutao North-East)
6° 42.5′ N · 99° 40.1′ E · approximate
A pretty, secluded anchorage in the lee of the islet of Ko Laen, just off Tarutao's north-east shore — one of the few Tarutao overnight spots the guides rate for the SW monsoon.
Practical
Moorings Siam cruising guide (Ko Laen, 006°42.75N 099°40.25E): anchor in 8-10 m to the west of Ko Laen in this pretty little secluded anchorage; a good overnight stop in the SW season; no restaurants. Position approximate: placed in the gap west of Ko Laen, about 300 m from both Ko Laen and the Tarutao shore on the OpenStreetMap outlines; the guide's own waypoint plots at the islet's north tip, so treat it as an approach point. The Moorings guide is undated, states its GPS positions are on the Indian 1975 datum (not WGS84) and says to anchor only on sand: it quotes fines of US$1,000 to US$15,000 for anchoring on coral (verify locally). Ao Pante and the park HQ are about 3 km west. Tarutao park fee applies.
