Crocodile Cave (Tham Jarakhe) by dinghy
6° 41.8′ N · 99° 39.0′ E
A paddle or dinghy trip up the mangrove-lined Pante creek to a limestone cave about 300 m deep — named for the saltwater crocodiles that once lived here, now gone.
Practical
Position: OpenStreetMap 'Crocodile Cave'. Southeast Asia Pilot: the mangrove creek runs several km and is navigable by dinghy at mid to high tide; the cave is less crowded than Tham Morakot. Wikipedia: the cave is 300 m deep, about 15 minutes by longtail from Pante through mangrove; Tarutao's rivers were the last Thai refuge of the saltwater crocodile, now extinct there. Wikivoyage: kayak rental about 500 THB per day; no crocodiles. Time the trip on a rising tide so you are not stranded on the mud; bring a torch. Run engines slowly in the creek.
