6° 31.8′ N · 99° 42.2′ E
The Moorings guide's south-west-season fall-back from Ao Talo Udang: round Tarutao's south-east tip and anchor north of Koh Belitung Besa, among the islets off the prison-camp bay.
Practical
Moorings Siam cruising guide (Ao Talo Udang section): during the SW season proceed a short distance around to the east coast and anchor north of Ko Belitung Besa at 006°31.75N 099°42.15E, or in the bay north of Ko Sing. The guide warns that Thai fishing boats anchor nearby in the evening and leave after midnight, so show good anchor lights. Depth is not given: sound in. Plotted as published and checked to fall in the water, about 600 m north of Ko Lae Tong (OpenStreetMap's name for Belitung Besa). The Moorings guide is undated, states its GPS positions are on the Indian 1975 datum (not WGS84) and says to anchor only on sand: it quotes fines of US$1,000 to US$15,000 for anchoring on coral (verify locally). See the Koh Panan – Koh Belitung Besa Passage for the current (about 2 kn at mid-tide, Southeast Asia Pilot). Malaysian waters are just south.
