Ao Talo Wao Anchorage

6° 37.4′ N · 99° 41.1′ E

Tarutao's east-coast anchorage off the long pier built to ship prisoners to the island's penal colonies, beside a limestone outcrop — the island's best bet when the SW monsoon makes the west coast untenable.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot (6°37.403N 99°41.095E): anchor in 7-10 m near the long pier beside the rock outcrop. An uncharted rock lies in the inner channel north of the anchorage. Fresh water at the end of the jetty; ranger station on the hill; bikes and shuttle bus from the visitor centre; roads north to HQ (12 km) and south. Ferries to Satun, the Butang group and Langkawi call here. Protected from the west; open to the east. Moorings Siam guide: anchor north of the pier in 7-9 m; a small restaurant near the pier opens in the NE season only, and there is a hosepipe for filling jerry cans.
