Hat Khlong Chak Anchorage (Waterfall Bay)

7° 28.7′ N · 99° 5.2′ E

The southernmost reachable beach on Lanta, a small bay with a river and the Khlong Chak waterfall visible from the sea, excellent snorkelling and a handful of beach restaurants.

Practical

Good holding close inshore in 6-10 m on sand (Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint, 48 nm from Ao Chalong). A ground swell often makes it uncomfortable, so it is mainly a calm-weather and NE-monsoon stop. The Khlong Chak waterfall sits at the head of the river at the north end; the park's easy Khlong Chak trail leads to a bat cave and the small seasonal falls. The road ends near the lighthouse and the Mu Ko Lanta National Park HQ just to the south. Note: the Pilot's waypoint (7°28.712N 99°05.166E) lies off Ao Mai Pai (Bamboo Bay), just south of Khlong Chak beach, so this is also the Bamboo Bay anchorage (see Ao Mai Pai Beach).

Best for

Snorkelling and a waterfall walk at Lanta's quiet southern end

Season

Nov-Apr in settled weather; swell-prone
