Dive· Koh Payu (#7)· Thailand
East of Eden
8° 35.4′ N · 97° 38.5′ E · approximate
One of the best-known reef slopes in the Similans, running north to south down the sheltered east side of Koh Payu, with staghorn and blue coral up top and some of the largest sea fans in the park, smothered in glassfish, at the bottom.
Practical
Approx: placed on the east shore of Koh Payu using the Wikivoyage island position (8.5905, 97.6376); no published site waypoint was found. Island numbers here follow the dive-operator convention (Koh Payu = #7); the Wikipedia/DNP list calls Koh Payu #6 and Koh Hin Pousar #7. Depth 5–40 m, beginner to intermediate, visibility often 20–40 m (Khao Lak Scuba Adventures). East-side sites are calmer in the NE monsoon. Frogfish hide among the sponges at the north end. Moorings for the dive fleet; private yachts should not anchor on the reef.
