Koh Miang East Anchorage

8° 34.2′ N · 97° 38.6′ E

A sand patch between Koh Miang and the small islets to its east (Koh Ha and Koh Hok Noi), sheltered from both monsoons and with excellent diving among the coral heads around the islet.

Practical

Southeast Asia Pilot position 08°34.163N, 97°38.554E. Anchor in 10–15 m on sand between Koh Miang and the islets, or closer to the Koh Miang beach in 8–10 m on sand. Holding is good, but a strong current runs through the channel, so lay out plenty of scope and expect to lie to the stream rather than the wind. Protected from both NE and SW. It is an easy dinghy ride to the HQ beach (Hat Na) or to the smaller beach opposite (Hat Lek), and a trail links the small beach to HQ.

Best for

The most all-round-protected overnight in the southern Similans

Season

Mid-October to mid-May
