Chumphon Port of Entry (Pak Nam Chumphon)

10° 26.4′ N · 99° 14.9′ E · approximate

The mainland port of entry closest to Koh Tao, at the Chumphon river mouth about 60 km across the Gulf, useful for yachts arriving from the north or wanting to clear in or out without going to Samui.

Practical

Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap node for Pak Nam Chumphon, the river-mouth fishing town and port, not a specific office. Noonsite lists Chumphon among Thailand's ports of entry, but its Chumphon page could not be read for this entry, so confirm office locations, hours and fees before arrival (by agent, or with the Koh Samui offices). The provincial Immigration office is mapped in Chumphon town at 10.5118N 99.1185E (OpenStreetMap), about 15 km inland. AIS has been mandatory in Thai waters since 1 January 2016, and you must register on the Marine Department single window (md.go.th) as for any Thai port. The Koh Tao ferries leave from Thung Makham Noi pier south of town (Lomprayah) and Tha Yang pier (Ko Charoen car ferry) (Wikivoyage), so expect fast ferry traffic in the approaches. The alternative Gulf port of entry nearest this subregion is Ao Nathon, Koh Samui (Customs and Immigration).
