Japanese Gardens (Nang Yuan)

10° 7.1′ N · 99° 48.9′ E

A shallow, colourful coral garden on the east side of Nang Yuan, with hundreds of hard and soft coral heads that give it the look of an oriental garden, and the island's most popular snorkel spot.

Practical

Position from OpenStreetMap (Japanese Garden dive site). Crystal Dive: 2–15 m, sandy slopes, possible eagle rays, beginner-friendly, and snorkelers can visit on a Nang Yuan day trip. Wikipedia: max 14 m, average 10 m, beginner+, with a dive boat sunk in 2009 resting at about 15 m. Nangyuan Island Dive Resort names it one of the most popular snorkel spots and says blacktip reef sharks are sometimes seen near the beaches around 7am and 5:30pm. Snorkel from the Nang Yuan moorings by dinghy; dive boats are constant through the day.
