Chong Koh Yao Anchorage
8° 5.2′ N · 98° 36.4′ E
A good overnight anchorage in the channel between the two Yao islands, east of the low mid-channel rock Hin Klang Rong, convenient for the ferry jetty and Koh Yao Noi's main village.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 08°5.155N 98°36.402E, about 26 nm from Yacht Haven. 7–10 m, good overnight holding. Approach via the Chong Koh Yao passage on a mid-to-rising tide (high tide at least 0.5 m more than your draft). The all-tide floating jetty on Koh Yao Noi gives access to the village, about 1 km inland. Day-trip speedboats pack the area from after lunch until late afternoon. Three fishing villages line Koh Yao Yai's north shore, one with a long jetty; they are Muslim, so cover up and don't take alcohol ashore.
