Ao Talo Puya Sea Gypsy Village, Koh Adang
6° 32.4′ N · 99° 19.4′ E · approximate
One of two small Urak Lawoi villages allowed on Adang's north-east coast, a cluster of about a dozen houses with a jetty in a sandy lagoon.
Practical
Position approximate: the OpenStreetMap label for Ao Talo Po Ya bay on the north-east coast. Wikipedia: the Urak Lawoi first settled Adang in 1910; in 1998 the government allowed two small villages, Ao Talo Puya and Ao Talo Cengan, and no new buildings are permitted. Southeast Asia Pilot: a Chao Lay village with a jetty in a sandy lagoon, accessible by dinghy across the channel from Koh Lipe; approach the lagoon at mid to high tide. Visit respectfully. Naming caution: OpenStreetMap also has a bay node whose Thai name reads Ao Talo Puya (English tag 'Ao Talolanja') on Adang's north coast at 6.57465, 99.29693, so the village could lie on the north rather than the east shore; confirm locally.
