Practical

Pub. 171 (2010): in the SE monsoon anchor anywhere in the bay off the W coast about 0.1 nm from the high-water line in about 9 m, though the stern will be in about 55 m, so weigh anchor if the tide swings you against the wind. Small vessels drop anchor on the reef edge about 0.1 nm NE of a ruined pier and lie back on the chain. At St Thomas Anchorage the flood sets WSW at 3 knots at springs and the ebb ENE at 1 knot at neaps. Shoal water runs 0.9 nm SE from the SE end of the island. The IOC tide gauge (status 'in test', 2026) stands here. Coordinate is approximate: 0.1 nm off the OpenStreetMap west coast, next to the IOC gauge position.
