Assumption Island Clearance Port
9° 43.5′ S · 46° 31.1′ E
Since September 2018 Assumption has been a permanent clearance port for vessels cruising the outer islands, so ships no longer have to go to Port Victoria: officials fly in and clear the vessel at sea.
Practical
Cabinet confirmed the arrangement on 12 September 2018 after a two-year trial. Health, immigration, the National Biosecurity Agency, customs and police officers are flown to Assumption, and the visiting vessel pays their transport (about USD 22,100 quoted for a cruise ship, 2018; verify locally). There is no physical port. Officers check why the vessel is in Seychelles waters and who and what is aboard. A legacy of the piracy era: at least two armed security guards board and stay aboard while the vessel is in Seychelles waters. The reports describe cruise ships; whether a small yacht can use the service, and at what cost, is not published, so ask SMSA and the Port Authority well ahead. Coordinate is the island position from OpenStreetMap.
