Rémire Island (IDC Permission Required)
5° 7.0′ S · 53° 18.8′ E
A small, 27 ha wooded island (also called Eagle Island) about halfway between African Banks and D'Arros. It is an IDC island with a small airstrip and staff settlement; guesthouse chalets were built after 2010.
Practical
Landing requires IDC permission (2011 fee list: SCR 300 per person, verify locally). IDC runs a guesthouse here. Rémire Reef, a 5 x 3 km reef much of which dries at low water, lies NE of the island. The island light shown in Pub. 171 should not be relied on. Lesser noddy, fairy tern and wedge-tailed shearwater breed, and peacocks were introduced in the 1990s. Coordinate is the islet position from OpenStreetMap.
