D'Arros Anchorage (North Side)

5° 24.3′ S · 53° 17.9′ E · approximate

The most convenient anchorage for D'Arros and St Joseph: deep water off the north side of D'Arros, sheltered from the southeast trades.

Practical

Pub. 171 (2010): anchor 0.3 nm N of D'Arros in about 45 m, sand and coral; vessels in this area should always anchor for the night, weather and sea permitting, or else make an offing from the bank. Tidal currents run strongly through the channel between the reef and the spit extending 0.5 nm NE from D'Arros, and unless the sun is well placed the reef edges are hard to see. Multihulls World says currents in the Amirantes passes reach 2-3 knots, setting east in the NW monsoon and west in the SE trades. Deep anchoring: carry long scope and an anchor buoy. Coordinate is approximate: 0.3 nm N of the island outline in OpenStreetMap.
