North Island Standoff and Biosecurity Rules

4° 23.6′ S · 55° 14.7′ E

North Island is a private, guest-only resort island that has been rodent-free since 2005; the owners name boats and barges as the main way rats could get back, so passing yachts look but do not land.

Practical

Pin is the island coordinate (Wikipedia/GeoHack). No published public anchorage, mooring or landing exists: do not anchor off, land a dinghy, swim ashore or dive its reefs without the island's prior permission (contact +248 429 3100, info@north-island.com). No official standoff distance is published; keep well off the beaches and the guest dive and snorkel areas. Rat-free practice if you are ever invited ashore: do not bring the yacht alongside, come in by dinghy only after checking it, bags and any provisions for stowaways, and land nothing (food, plants, soil) without permission. Nearest legal overnight anchorage: Anse Mondon on Silhouette's north coast, about 4 nm south (distance measured between the published coordinates), inside Silhouette Marine National Park (park fees apply).
