North Island (Private Island, No Landing)
4° 23.6′ S · 55° 14.7′ E
A 2 sq km granite island 5.8 km north of Silhouette, home to one of the world's most exclusive resorts (11 villas) and a rewilding project that removed every rat, cat and pig to bring back endemic wildlife; the 2011 honeymoon island of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Practical
Private: there is no public landing. Visitors arrive by 15-minute helicopter or by boat/yacht transfer arranged by the island (45 minutes to 1 hour from Mahé). North Island is rodent-free since 2005 and the owners say accidental reintroduction by boats is their main risk, so never land a dinghy or bring anything ashore without permission. Contact: +248 429 3100, info@north-island.com. Resort independent and family-owned since 1 July 2025 (previously Marriott's Luxury Collection). Peaks: Spa Hill, Bernica and Grand Paloss. Beaches: West Beach (Grande Anse), East Beach, Honeymoon Beach, Petit Anse.
