Grande Barbe Hike

4° 29.7′ S · 55° 13.5′ E · approximate

The island crossing to the abandoned west-coast village of Grande Barbe, billed by NIVA Labriz as the most challenging trail in Seychelles: a climb of about 415 m through dense jungle with sandalwood, orchids and pitcher plants.

Practical

Pin approx, on the trail between La Passe and Grande Barbe. About 4 hours each way (Seyvillas; NIVA Labriz). The path is mostly shaded; start early and use a guide, as forks are easy to miss on the way back. The resort speedboat can collect hikers at Grande Barbe (National Geographic). Many hikers turn back; carry plenty of water.
