Silhouette National Park

4° 29.2′ S · 55° 13.8′ E

Created in 2010, the park protects about 93% of Silhouette: a steep granite island of five peaks over 500 m cloaked in the richest surviving mist forest in the granitic Seychelles, with endemic plants found nowhere else.

Practical

Pin is the island centroid (Wikipedia). Most of the roughly 75 endemic plants of the granitic Seychelles grow here, some only on Silhouette; carnivorous pitcher plants grow on the upper slopes. Trails all start at La Passe; several are hard to follow and a guide is strongly advised (mandatory for Mont Dauban). Guided hikes are sold through NIVA Labriz and run by Island Conservation Society staff. Bring water, sturdy shoes and expect mud after rain. The island is an Important Bird Area and Alliance for Zero Extinction site.
