Grand Anse (La Digue)
4° 22.4′ S · 55° 50.6′ E
A wide, wild beach on the southeast coast with big Indian Ocean surf and no protecting reef - spectacular to look at, dangerous to swim.
Practical
Coordinate is 'Grande Anse' on OpenStreetMap (not to be confused with Grand Anse on Praslin). SeyVillas: strong currents, especially in the monsoon season, and signs warn of dangerous currents; the hiking guide says do not swim at Grand Anse or Petite Anse. Reached by bike across the island from La Passe (about 1 km to the turn south). Loutier Coco restaurant is on the beach. Start point for the walk to Petite Anse, Anse Cocos and Anse Caiman.
Best for
Surf-watching and the start of the Anse Cocos walk
