Anse aux Pins (off-reef day anchorage)

4° 42.0′ S · 55° 31.9′ E · approximate

The long reef-sheltered beach south of the airport, a calm-weather lunch stop off Mahé's east coast with the Domaine de Val des Prés craft village and Creole restaurants a short walk inland.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 900 m off the beach, east of the Anse aux Pins bay point and beach mapped on OpenStreetMap; there is no published yacht anchorage or waypoint and the reef edge is not charted in OSM, so approach only in good light with a bow lookout and sound in to sand outside the reef. Seyvillas: an offshore reef shelters the beach and the sea inside is very shallow, so shallow that at low tide you can sometimes walk out to the reef and swimming is only practical at high tide; seagrass June to September; wind- and kitesurfing. Land the dinghy across the lagoon only near high water. Exposed to the SE trades (May-Oct); consider it only in calm or NW-monsoon conditions and do not stay overnight. Ashore: police station, clinic and bus terminal (OSM); Domaine de Val des Prés about 1.3 km south.
